Camouflage Summer Activities & Events

Hide & Seek

A variety of arts activities for children in these fun workshops. Learn some of the techniques behind the illusions and create your own art work.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday: July 15 – 18; 10am – 12noon (9 – 12years) and 1pm – 3pm (5 – 8 years) £5 per session or £20 for four mornings or afternoons. The Gordon Hihlanders Museum.

The Arts Development Team will also be running these workshops for community and outreach groups from July 21 – August 1. Please contact the Arts Development team for further information on (01224) 523640.

Pop & Fashion – fashion workshop

This weeklong workshop is a chance for young people to design and print their own clothing and accessories using camouflage as inspiration.

Monday - Friday: August 4 – 8; 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm (13 - 16 years); £35 The Gordon Highlanders Museum

Camouflage Military Model Display

Following the theme of camouflage, the Aberdeen Modellers Society will showcase some of their finest examples of military vehicles, tanks, aeroplanes and ships.

Saturday 10am – 4.30pm and Sunday 12.30pm – 4.30pm; FREE. The Gordon Highlanders Museum

Pop & Fashion – fashion workshop

Camouflage has been used in popular culture for decades. Musicians such as Public Enemy and The Clash embraced camouflage fashion and design as an anti-war statement and it now forms part of everyday street-wear. This weeklong workshop is a chance for young people to design and print their own clothing and accessories using camouflage as inspiration.

Monday - Friday: August 4 – 8; 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm (13 - 16 years) £30

Summer Adult Workshops

Nature & Concealment – painting workshop

Examine the camouflage techniques employed by Cezanne, Braque , Surrealism and Cubism to create your own camouflage piece of art.

Monday – Friday: August 11 - 15; 10am – 12noon and 1pm – 3pm; £58 (concession £48)

Special events

Leading Fashion Designer Showcases Camouflage Couture Collection: July 31st - August 3rd

Evening fashion showcase with Iona Crawford on July 31st: 7.30pm - 9pm. Developed in association with The Flower Room and Toni & Guy. All welcome.

Iona Crawford is a young rising star in the fashion industry. A first class honours degree graduate from Edinburgh College of Art, Iona was awarded the Betty Davies award for innovation and outstanding use of Scottish fabric whilst showcasing her graduate collection. A short-listed nominee for the Scottish fashion awards new talent award 2007, Iona will showcase her unique collection of couture camouflage garments at The Gordon Highlanders Museum.

An exciting array of artworks created by participants of The Gordon Highlanders Museum's themed events and activities programme Camouflage '08 will be showcased at the Aberdeen Arts Centre during the month of August.

Schools

The Gordon Highlanders Museum offers cross-curricular workshops for both primary and secondary schools around the theme of camouflage. Workshops support a curriculum for excellence and tie with science, history art and design. For more information please contact:
